What we do ?

This laboratory was organized on June 2021 when Professor Youhei Kawamura joined to Hokkaido University. Now, we have 9 members, 2 doctoral students, 4 master students and 3 undergraduate students. Our laboratory aims to develop useful systems that contribute to safety and productivity in the fields of mining and civil engineering, mainly using information communication engineering such as image processing, communication, and deep learning.

In addition, our laboratory has a strong relationship with the Cooperative Program for Resources Engineering, a graduate school of Hokkaido University. And we can gain a lot of experience through various business trips and study abroad.

Coments from Professor

Improving efficiency and safety is an urgent issue in the development of mines, which are becoming less concentrated and deeper. The development of new technologies to achieve this goal is accelerating. In addition, the trend toward "zero-emission mining operations," which is the goal for 2050, is also driving the inevitable fusion of other fields. Smart Mining (Mining 4.0), which integrates information communication technology, offers new possibilities for the mining industry. Furthermore, multimodal sensing and digital twin will become more important as core technologies for Smart Mining. These technologies will connect the Physical World and the Cyber World as an effective interface. It contributes to improve efficiency and safety by "visualizing" mine operations.
